so we’re using the slow cooker for the first time and we’re doing corned beef but the recipe says to use brown sugar which i can’t seem to find so i used raw sugar instead

ooh, ooh, do you have any molasses? brown sugar is just regular sugar + molasses. ratio’s around a cup of sugar to a tablespoon of molasses for light brown sugar, and a cup of sugar to a quarter of a cup of molasses for dark brown sugar.

basically, to retain the intended flavour, add a tiny bit of molasses (honey or dark corn syrup will also work!)

unfortunately not, i had looked up awhile ago if there was any substitute for brown sugar which lead to what you’ve said but we don’t have any molasses, honey or dark corn syrup

the most annoying thing is that we bought brown sugar yesterday and it has mysteriously disappeared. oh well i don’t think raw sugar will kill us
